My Morning Jacket - Circuital

It seems that with each album, My Morning Jacket gets more esoteric, Jim James’ vocals get a little higher-pitched and a few more tracks border on weird. Circuital is another step in that direction. My friend Gabe and I were discussing the progression of My Morning Jacket albums over Father’s Day BBQ, and we agreed that it seems the handful of really great tracks from each album sound like they belong on It Still Moves (See “I’m Amazed” on Evil Urges). The more they push the envelope, the farther it takes them from what I like. With that being said, if they continue to put out albums with at least some songs I enjoy, who am I to complain? I really like My Morning Jacket and I really like Jim James’ side project Monsters of Folk. I’m excited to see them on August 3rd at the Uptown.
