As I write this, Tiger Woods is teeing off in his final major of the 2011 season, 7 strokes over par and fighting to make the projected +3 cut. Although we saw Steve Stricker shoot a major low round-tying 63 yesterday, there aren’t a lot of really low scores out there to be had. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Here’s Golf Digest‘s PGA Championship preview. They focus on the revolutionary formula of grasses used at the Atlanta Athletic club and how the innovation used here will make it possible to see more majors played in southern states where it’s traditionally too hot during the summer months. Good read.

Well, we didn’t quite have the dramatic finish we’d hoped for in the 140th Open Championship at Royal St. George’s yesterday, but Darren Clarke is a hell of a likable guy. Glad to see him win one.

To wrap up the British weekend, check out this article that was in the July issue of Golf Digest. It chronicles Freddie Tait and his legendary bet to play 3.2 miles of scrub from Royal St. George’s to Royal Cinque Ports in only 32 strokes. Pretty amazing. Keep in mind that due to ball and club technology, the average drive in his era was around 190 yards, with roll.

We’re two hours from the start of the final round of the 140th Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England. There are some great story lines in play…the crowd favorite Darren Clarke in the lead, Dustin Johnson in the final pairing trying to exorcise his Sunday major demons, Oklahoma State’s Bieber-esque sensation Rickie Fowler just three shots back. Should be a doozy.

Here’s the Open preview that ran in the July edition of Golf Digest. Good read.
