great: the louis c.k. special, louis on the b.s. report and louis in general.

Listening to Louis C.K. is a joy. He’s just so damn frank about everything. It’s really, really refreshing to hear someone with his influence and level of success strip away the veneer of showbiz and explain how it actually works, how the money is made and how he creates content.

By now, you’ve surely heard about his newest comedy special and how/why he decided to produce it himself and sell it for $5 on with the fewest restrictions possible. I love having an option to support an artist in such a direct manner and am very pleased that’s he’s done well with this model. Hopefully others will be inspired to do the same.

Regarding the special, here’s another example of Louis’ openness about the whole thing: Louis relinquishes the power of exclusive of information and lays out the numbers on his marketing ‘experiment’.

It’s all very exciting, more so because it’s coming from an artist that I love. (See my post on HBO’s Talking Funny & his FX show Louie and in my September Simply KC column).

He did a great interview with Terry Gross on NPR’s Fresh Air this week and also just did a two-part B.S. Report with Bill Simmons…it ranks among the best episodes Bill’s done to date.

Go buy the special, it’ll be the best $5 you spend today: Louis C.K. Comedy Special

He even throws in DVD box cover and disc art in high-res PDF form in case you have people on your gift list stuck in the analog world.

Here are a few deleted scenes (probably NSFW, depending on your W):

Also, here is a short piece written by Joan Rivers about Louis for the December GQ Men of the Year issue: Louis C.K. Comic Genius.
