As a former VW Westfalia owner, I was quite pleased back in August when LEGO announced the Volkswagen T1 Camper Van set. The video below is my homage to the iconic VW Camper. In addition to just having a little fun, I wanted to explore what’s possible in animation using exclusively free open source/embedded Windows 7 tools and a sub $10 macro light box featured on Lifehacker.

  1. Oh, it makes me miss my ´81 T3 Wetfalia Camper..

  2. Hey Marshall,

Excellent time stop. In your video, the lego bus is actually a SO42 Camper, not a 21 Window like the photo at the end…

I have a nice 77 Sage Green Westy, yours looks to be in nice shape.

    Take Care

    • Hey, thanks. Yeah, it was tough to find a high-res image without rights to use…had to accept the discrepancy.

Thanks, I loved every minute of owning that bus.

  3. Hi!

Great Build! I am thinking about giving this Lego VW to my boyfriend for Advent. I want to give him a part of it every sunday, so he can spread the build out over December. Therefore i was wondering, if the bags that all of the pieces come in, are marked with numbers or so? So that you can tell in the building-manual which bag of pieces you have to use next?

That would make it a lot easier for me to give him :-)
    Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Katherine…
Great idea! Unfortunately this kit’s bags aren’t numbered. I found that frustrating, especially after seeing them numbered in the Millennium Falcon set. It does have multiple bags, but it’d be hard to build it gradually that way.
      Good luck!
